Dia de los Muertos - Pick a Person

I plan to construct a Dia de los Muertos altar about my grandmother, Anna Prietto-Sandoval. Her main charcter trait is wise. This person is known for being the greatest chief to ever lead her tribe for twenty whole years. Her appearance when she was a young woman, was known to be very beautiful and as she got older she started looking stronger and healthier every day. Others think my grandma is a very powerful and positive person to being around. She always has something wise to say about what goes on around the reservation. My grandma always thought that the children of the tribe should always get involved in their culture and never give up on their people. A few items that I may include  in my altar to represent this person are beaded jewelery, material, more pictures and some flowers. I selected this person because shes the greatest person, that I know of, that has ever lived.

“Two Kinds” Character Analysis Paragraph

In the story "Two Kinds", Jing-mei's mother is very strict. I feel that she is a good mother that likes to challenge her daughter's abilities. When she grabs Jing-mei and sits her on the piano stool, it shows that she is very impatient and wants something done. Jing-mei's mother is an asian woman. Her mother's thoughts and feelings are pointed very strongly at her creating a child star of her daughter. She gives a lot of orders and commands that frustrate Jing-mei. She is a lot like mothers these days who force their children to do things they want them to do.

"Two Kinds" Mother-Daughter Conflict

In the conflict between Jing-mei and her mother, her mother is strict yet supportive to her even though she is forcing her to play the piano and to become a prodigy. My mother did the same to me and I am greatful that I had the opportunities to learn new things during that time. She taught me that with a little push, I can do anything thats possible though it may be difficult, and learning to play the piano was very difficult.

"Two Kinds" Jing-Mei's Shoes Paragraph

If someone was pushing me to become a prodigy piano player I would be respectful and honored that they chose me. I would try my hardest to do good. Learning new things is always a good thing. I would not be afraid to challenge myself and based on my experience with playing the piano for three five years, it is not an easy thing. It takes dedication and a lot of hard work. Being pressured helps you focus on what needs to get done and motivates you to do very well, because with less pressure less effort is given.

"Two Kinds" Before You Read: Something You Don't Want to Do

In the morning at home my dad woke me up to go to school. I refused because I did not want to go. I was also not feeling well and it made me feel guilty because my dad was disappointed in me. He always tells me to do things that are important no matter what because it will only hurt you in the end. We resolved the conflict by deciding to just go to school after lunch if I was feeling better by then.

"Everyday Use" Before You Read: Tradition

Fifteen years from now I will pass down my regailia to my daughter--if I have one by then. This tradition involves regailia that is used for dancing in pow wows in my Native American culture. One of my happy memories of this tradition is my mom passing her regailia down to me. It is custom made with a silver shawl with a big blue cross on it. All custom made regailia is made within several months and are priceless because they are hand made.  By sharing this tradition with future generations, I hope they will be proud to have the customs and traditions of the Native American culture.
